In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that in Bengal we do not divide people, but unite them. He said this in a program organized before Christmas in Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee further said that let Bengal remain a place where people not only follow different religions but also celebrate festivals together.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday gave an oral assurance to the Delhi High Court that it will not execute till January 9 a warrant for production of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal here in a money laundering case. On this assurance, Justice Jasmeet Singh listed Mandal’s petition for January 9, 2023.

Mandal, lodged in West Bengal’s Asansol Jail in the cattle smuggling case, has challenged in the Delhi High Court the production warrant of the lower court of Delhi. The trial court has ordered his production here in the money laundering case related to this episode.

The judge asked the ED to inform again on January 9, till then you should not act on it. Advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mudit Jain, appearing for Mandal, said that if the ED gives a statement that it will not execute the production warrant now, the court can list the plea in January.

Mandal, president of the Birbhum district unit of the Trinamool Congress and a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 11 in this case. According to the ED, it registered the case after the CBI lodged an FIR in Kolkata against the then Border Security Force (BSF) commander Satish Kumar.
